Weight Management

Is Our Weight Management Program Right for You?

Achieving a healthy weight is not only about losing pounds, but also puts you on the path of becoming healthier both physically and emotionally.  Many people report experiencing a higher quality of life and greatly improved health status after losing weight.  A reduction in fatigue, high blood pressure, blood cholesterol, blood sugar, and joint-related problems is likely with weight loss.

Mission Hospital understands that weight management is different for every person. That's why our Weight Management Center offers both medical and surgical weight loss options, both available through our new outpatient facility.

Whatever options you choose, you will receive personalized service and guidance from a comprehensive team of medical specialists inclduing physicians, both board-certified medical bariatricians and bariatric surgeons; registered dietitians, registered nurses, an exercise specialist and behaviorist.

Because obesity is a multi-faceted disease, we offer a multi-disciplinary treatment approach.

Several surgical approaches are available and offered through Mission, almost always through minimally invasive procedures.  Considering certain factors may help you determine if surgery is right for you. Here are the weight loss surgical options Mission offers:
  • Minimally invasive surgery including Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS).
  • Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass - The most common surgical method used to control obesity today.   For those with a BMI of 35-50.
  • Gastric Banding - Also known as LAP-BAND® procedure. For those with a BMI of 35-60.
  • Gastric Sleeve -Also known as a Sleeve Gastrectomy.  For those with a BMI of 35-60.
Medical (non-surgical) Weight Management - For those with a BMI of 25-29 with a co-morbidity OR with a BMI greater than 30.   Severely obese patients who have not had success with non-surgical approaches to weight loss or who have an obesity-related disease may be good candidates for bariatric surgery.

Individual Nutritional Counseling - Personal counseling with a nutritionist for those with a BMI of 25 or greater.
